Did you know?

The color of Wakasa Meno agatework is achieved by heating agate to 200-300°C. This technique was perfected in the middle of the Edo period and is mainly used in Obama City, Fukui prefecture, which was previously known as Wakasa. Because agate is a very hard stone, a great deal of time is spent cutting and polishing each piece. Wakasa Meno agatework is commonly used in making Buddhist statues, incense burners, sake cups, and a variety of ornaments.
