DECEMBER NUMBERS CONTINUE TO CLIMB

Our JNTO Toronto Office would like to thank all of our supporters for your efforts in 2018. The numbers are in, and we are delighted to share that the rate Canadian visitors to Japan was up 8.2 % in 2018 (330,500 in 2018, as compared to 305,591 visitors in 2017), with a 3.9% increase in the month of December (28,100 visitors in December 2018 compared to 27,055 visitors in December 2017).

JR
JR-WEST LAUNCHING ONLINE RESERVATION SERVICE IN SPRING 2019

JR West is launching a new service that allows tourists from other countries to purchase JR tickets online to "Make the journey easier and more convenient." The West Japan Railway Company (JR-West) is set to release the service in spring 2019, which will be used to support the increasing numbers of visitors expected to visit Japan in this year and in years to come.

TOTTORI PREFECTURE, JAPAN'S TRAVEL DESTINATION FOR 2019

GaijinPot Travel has released their list of best places to visit in Japan this year, and Tottori Prefecture took the top spot! While it may be the least populated prefecture in Japan, it is best known for having the largest accessible sand dunes. Travelers desire real experiences and adventures that exceed the norm, and Tottori Prefecture provides this and much more!

NOW OPEN - OKONOMIYAKI COOKING STUDIO OKOSTA

Cooking Okonomiyaki, one of Hiroshima’s most popular experience programs for tourists is now available in JR Hiroshima Station! Under the instruction of expert chefs, you’ll be able to learn how to cook Okonomiyaki. Of course, you'll get to eat it too! English-speaking instructors will be available for non-Japanese speakers.

Fukuoka
INTRODUCING TRIAL FUKUOKA AI TOURIST INFORMATION

For visitors planning a trip to Fukuoka, Kyushu District Transport Bureau and Fukuoka City have collaborated to create a Fukuoka anytime, anywhere sightseeing helper. Currently, Fukuoka AI Tourist Information will only be available for a limited trial period, but visitors will be able to use this to discover Fukuoka during this time.

Shiba Park
CHERRY BLOSSOM VIEWING EVENT WITH SHIBA PARK HOTEL GUESTS IN TOKYO

Between March 28 and April 5, Shiba Park Hotel in Tokyo will hold an “Ohanami Sakura Walk.” This event will introduce hotel guests to nearby cherry blossom locations and help them make the most of this beautiful event in Japan. Hotel staff will also explain the different types of Cherry Blossom Trees.

Okonomiyaki

 

Okonomiyaki is definitely a meal best enjoyed with an empty stomach! For those who are unfamiliar with Okonomiyaki, this is a delicious savory pancake made of cabbage mixed with flour and egg, topped with either meat or seafood, and a variety of other toppings that you can choose from. This popular meal is a great option if you are looking to enjoy one of Japan's top comfort foods and there are three kinds of Okonomiyaki styles, including Kansai, Hiroshima, and Tokyo style. Your taste buds will thank you later.
