A STRONG INCREASE IN FEBRUARY ARRIVALS

Japan remains a popular destination for Canadians in 2019, with a strong 14.7% increase in Canadian tourists to Japan in February. 23,900 Canadians made the trip in February 2019, as compared to 20,843 in February 2018.

EXPLORE OKAYAMA, THE ‘LAND OF SUNSHINE’

Thanks to its minimal rain and a milder climate, Okayama has gained the nickname, the ‘Land of Sunshine,’ and might just be the place to help shake off those winter blues. Located between Kyoto and Hiroshima, and easily accessible by the Sanyo Shinkansen, Okayama offers fruit lovers the opportunity to indulge in peach and grape picking or to simply enjoy the wide variety of fresh fruit parfaits available at hotels, cafes, and restaurants. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS JAPAN FIRST-TIME EASTER CELEBRATIONS

For the first time ever, Universal Studios Japan will transform Minion Park into a colourful Easter-themed world. From Minions dressed in Easter outfits to Easter themed food, the park will offer joys of spring mixed with the best Easter celebrations for you and your family to enjoy.

Haruka
A KANSAI HELLO KITTY WELCOME

The Kansai-Airport Express “Haruka” wrapped in original Hello Kitty prints is the latest character collaboration West Japan Railway has been announced. The chosen design is traditionally Japanese, combining the beauty of flora and fauna in purple, pink, green, and yellow tones. For visitors who might like to travel on this train, it is the Kansai-Airport Express train travelling between Kansai-airport and Kyoto (Maibara).

Gokayama
EXPLORE WORLD HERITAGE GOKAYAMA GASSHO-ZUKURI VILLAGES

This year, Gokayama, a registered a World Heritage Site, will illuminate the villages with a beautiful light show. By day, you will be able to explore the grounds, and at night, the village will transform into a light-filled wonderland. Ainokura Village will be illuminated April 27, 28 and 29, August 12, 13 and 14, September 14, 15 and 16 and November 23 and 24. And Suganuma Village will be illuminated on May 25 and June.

NEW HOKKAIDO BUS PASS IS AVAILABLE

Travelling around Hokkaido on a bus just got a little easier. The introduction of the Hokkaido Budget Bus Pass will allow overseas visitors to take unlimited rides around Hokkaido. Hokkaido Chuo Bus company and other bus companies are collaborating to make this happen.

Pocko
PARK HOTEL TOKYO ART EXHIBITION POCKO PARK ‘SOUND OF WAVES’

The Park Hotel in Tokyo will present Pocko Park 'Sound of Waves,’ showcasing a selection of Japanese and western artists, including Marcel Duchamp, Nomoco, and Andy Warhol. This exhibition will bring together pieces from multi-disciplinary backgrounds for visitors to enjoy this summer. The exhibition will run from June 3 to September 1 and admission will be free of charge.

EXPLORE JAPAN AND TOKYO – MARCH 1ST

 

JNTO Toronto and a number of our invited Canadian and Japan marketing partners came together to present ‘Explore Japan and Tokyo,’ proudly supported by Tokyo Tourism and Air Canada. Guests began the evening with a mini trade show that saw our marketing partners and guests interact in one-on-one business meetings. Our guests were then treated to a taste of Japanese cuisine, a talk and performance by Karate Master and actor Akihito Yagi from Japan.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE AND TRAVEL SHOW (OASV) – MARCH 2ND AND 3RD

 

The first weekend of March saw JNTO Toronto and a number of our marketing partners join over 284 exhibitors at this year’s Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show (OASV) in Vancouver. This major travel show gave us the opportunity to engage with regular visitors and highlight the countless adventure opportunities and experiences they can enjoy when visiting Japan.

EXPLORE OSAKA – MARCH 5TH

 

JNTO Toronto joined Air Canada at their Vancouver Explore Osaka to launch Air Canada’s seasonal non-stop direct service to Kansai International Airport. From June 2019, Canadian travelers will be able to fly directly from Vancouver International Airport on flight fleet 787-800!

 

 

 

 

 
 
 

 

EAT AND DRINK YOUR WAY THROUGH JAPAN

 

Got a minute? Learn something new! In this section, we’ll present a variety of food and drink that you can enjoy when you visit Japan.

 

Tea drinking in picturesque Uji

 

If you consider yourself a tea drinker, or simply enjoy a cup of freshly brewed green tea, then why not experience the joys of tea drinking in Uji, a town well known for its tea, tea ceremony and beautiful tea fields. In just an hour from Kyoto, via JR or the Keihan lines, you can reach Uji. Here you’ll find one of the oldest tea shops in Japan, Tsuen, that has been in business since 1160. Not only will you discover tea, but if you make your way to Byodoin Omotesando, this busy 300 meter long street is where you can try and buy tea related souvenirs and delicious Japanese sweet treats.
